St James Sea Scouts is a welcoming Sea Scout group in Lower Hutt for boys and girls aged 6–18.
We offer scout skills, camping, and leadership opportunities plus sailing, rowing, kayaking and more that help young people grow in confidence, resilience, and teamwork — all while having a lot of fun.
Sailing, rowing, paddling, regattas, and learning to feel confident and capable on the water.
Camping, bushcraft, tramping, outdoor skills, and working together as a team.
Leadership, responsibility, problem-solving, confidence, and friendships that last.
Parents are welcome and supported — no scouting or boating experience needed.
St James Sea Scouts is open to all young people aged 6–18. We offer age-appropriate sections that grow skills and independence over time. Whether your child is adventurous, cautious, sporty, or still finding their confidence — they’ll belong here.

Monday 5:30pm
Fun and friendship are the cornerstones of the Kea programme. It is filled with a little bit of everything: outdoor activities, games, music, and crafts.
ages 8 - 11
Tuesday 6:15pm
Challenge and fun are the focus of the Cub programme. Hikes, weekend camps, and an introduction to water activities are just a few of the fun outdoor adventures that Cubs enjoy.
ages 11 - 14
Thursday 6:30pm (summer)
SScouts is about having fun while gaining valuable leadership skills and self-confidence on the water, sailing, rowing and kayaking. Sea Scouts also go tramping, biking, rock climbing, camping and more.
ages 14 - 18
Monday 6:30pm (summer)
Venturer programme offers fun, hands-on experiences for youth. They take a step up in leading and running their own activities with adult support. Adventure, teamwork, plus life skills.
