Becoming a Scouts Kaiarahi (Leader) is an fabulous way of contributing something worthwhile to your community...
Our Kaiarahi often speak of how rewarding it is to volunteer with SCOUTS New Zealand. Many parents choose to become a Leader of a Kea Club, Cub Pack, Scout Troop, or Venturer Unit, and experience SCOUTS for themselves. We get the best of both worlds: spending time with our children and watching them grow, but also learning and challenging ourselves as we share the fun experiences and progress through SCOUTS New Zealand's Leader Training scheme.
Interested? We love to hear from new people looking to get involved, contact Group Leader: stjames@group.scouts.nz
You can formally apply to volunteer through our listing on the Scouts Aotearoa Website
If you can't commit to regular sessions but still want to muck in and help make activities happen we have an enthusiastic group of adult helpers. These people bring a huge range of skills and experience that enable our water activities, camps and excursions possible. Some decide to move into leading a section later on, others prefer to play a supporting role - both are valuable!
Adult helpers who attend regularly or stay overnight on camp MUST be police vetted. This is free and easy, to get started speak to a leader and formally apply to volunteer through our listing on the Scouts Aotearoa Website.
No previous scouting or boating experience is required.
Behind the scenes of our Group is the committee of volunteers. They help with the operational side of our Scout Groups, helping to ensure the delivery of our high-quality programmes for young people. The committee meets once a month, usually online. There are formal roles of chair, secretary, grants officer and treasurer, beyond that it is fairly informal. All adults from St James whanau can be members of the committee, and may attend at any time, you do not need to be elected.
